It is my profound pleasure to welcome you to the School of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicine, University of Kashmir. In view of India’s renewed leadership in structuring the healthcare system that is deeply rooted in our rich traditional wisdom, yet driven by scientific validation, the School of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicine holds unique importance. The school, through its various research centres and hospitals, is committed to deliver quality education, cutting-edge research, effective outreach and best possible healthcare with utmost professionalism, clinical precision and empathy to students, society and other stakeholders.
My Deanship endeavours to ensure that the school stands out as a beacon of excellence for the preservation, promotion and scientific validation of the two classical and holistic healthcare systems, Unani and Ayurveda. Moving beyond the tradition of teaching from ancient sources and textbooks, the school will prepare a cadre of young professionals to lead the modern holistic health-care revolution. This would be achieved through best possible integration of Ayurveda that emphasizes internal metabolic balance and Unani that helps us address the root causes of diseases to better restore bodily equilibrium through natural therapies. I encourage the public to benefit from this system of medicine for attaining equilibrium in mind, body, and spirit, while avoiding the side-effects of other systems of medicine.
In pursuit of clinical and academic excellence, I urge the campuses to fully integrate traditional curriculum standards set by the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) with modern high-throughput research tools and technologies. The campuses should foster an intellectually stimulating environment of academic vibrancy and deep inquiry. I would like to see all the campuses as hubs of activities, such as special lectures, clinical workshops, free health camps via community engagement, and collaborative research initiatives to push the boundaries of knowledge in Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine. Keeping pace with the shifting global demand for a more personalized, cost-effective, and sustainable system of medicine, our collective efforts will surely position us at the cutting edge of holistic healthcare innovation for larger human wellbeing.
Our dedicated and well-qualified faculty is the custodian of invaluable traditional knowledge while being abreast with modern developments in this and allied systems of medicine. The facilities in our centres and hospitals are of high standard. The students are quite enthusiastic and inquisitive. Let us carry forward this sacred and rich legacy and commit ourselves to rigorous academic discourse and best possible clinical services, while maintaining highest ethical and professional standards. This will certainly help us groom future generations, save lives and reshape how the world perceives holistic Unani and Ayurvedic health-care systems.
